Dr. Mayfield is President and Co-Founder of the International Association for Resilience and Trauma Counseling. She served as IARTC's Founding President-Elect from October 2020 until June 30, 2022.She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Diplomate, and Clinical Mental Health Specialist in Child and Adolescent, Family, and Trauma Counseling. She has over 20 years of teaching experience. She serves on the United Nations NGO Committee on Mental Health. She was appointed to ACA’s International Committee and serves on the ACA Traumatology Interest Network Leadership Team. She is on the Board of Directors for Prevent Child Abuse Illinois where she serves as Board Development Chair. Her research interests include capacity building/resilience/grit; the epistemology of prevention (abuse, neglect, violence); epigenetics; the intersection of trauma and public health; and the integration of expressive arts, brain-based, and play modalities to address trauma sequelae. She has presented her research via national and international venues (Italy, Spain, Ireland, England, Nova Scotia, Montreal), has served as an invited speaker, keynote, and consultant for numerous organizations, is an NBCC Minority Fellow Mentor, and also serves as a mentor for the ACA Mentorship Program.
